Every November, despite their tireless efforts, political professionals face the harsh reality of job loss when campaigns end—often with little support or guidance on what comes next. The 2024 election cycle was no different, leaving thousands of hardworking, dedicated campaign staff suddenly unemployed.
This instability not only creates immense stress for jobseekers, but also drives many talented professionals out of the industry entirely, leading to a troubling cycle of brain drain in political work.
This year, Arena decided to do something about the problem, and the Job Search Accelerator was born. Explicitly designed for political staff transitioning from campaign roles, this program helped campaign professionals fast-track their post-election job search, build essential skills, and connect with hiring managers.
From Election Day through January, we hosted 28 virtual events featuring career experts, networking opportunities, and exclusive job search resources. Participants joined from 47 states, and territories, 2,393 individuals signed up for 8,300 training sessions, equipping them with the tools they need to land their next job in politics or advocacy.
The Arena Job Search Accelerator featured a variety of workshops, networking opportunities, and career-building sessions. Here’s a look at the impactful programming we hosted:
Job Search Power Hours
Every Thursday, job seekers joined our virtual co-working sessions to update resumes, apply for jobs, and navigate common job search challenges. Members of the Arena team were on hand to provide guidance, answer questions, and offer support in real-time.
Resume Workshops
The first step to landing a job is a strong resume. During our resume workshops, Team Arena reviewed resume best practices and guided jobseekers through hands-on exercises to improve their resumes. Participants received real-time group feedback and left the workshops ready to finalize a resume that would help them stand out in a crowded field of applicants.
Interview Prep Workshops
Mastering the art of the interview was a major focus of the Arena Job Search Accelerator. During our Interview Prep Workshops, we broke down different types of interview questions, provided structured response techniques, and explored strategies for leveraging personal networks to best prepare for interviews. Participants got to practice interviewing and receive feedback from members of the Arena team and their peers.
Virtual Networking Events
Building connections is essential in the political job market. We hosted networking spaces where participants met peers, hiring managers, and industry professionals—many of whom could become valuable job leads in the future.
Panel Discussions
We hosted two critical discussions to help campaign staff navigate career transitions:
- Nurturing Your Mental Health – Experts and Arena community members Ashlee Bruner, Gabri Cabán Cubero, and Tim Phan joined us to discuss the mental health challenges of campaign work, strategies for handling uncertainty, and self-care practices for the upcoming political cycle.
- The 2025 Job Landscape – This panel outlined where key political jobs will open in 2025, including the Virginia and New Jersey elections, and how campaign staff can position themselves for major 2026 races. We heard from Tom Manatos, Regina Monge, Emily Hawkins, and Aziz Yakub.
Career Fairs
We hosted three virtual career fairs where job seekers connected with 53 employers and recruiters hiring for political and advocacy roles. Attendees heard pitches from employers and participated in small-group breakout rooms to ask questions and explore job openings directly with hiring managers.
Attendee Feedback

In addition to these virtual sessions, jobseekers tapped into 18 free career tools from the Arena Toolbox—including a career planning worksheet, a compensation calculator, and a campaign skills translator—designed to help them navigate their next steps with confidence. From Election Day through the end of January, Arena careers tools were downloaded 1,743 times.
The Arena Job Search Accelerate provided job seekers with the tools, insights, and connections to secure their next roles in politics and advocacy work. Whether refining a resume, sharpening interview skills, or networking with potential employers, participants left the program better equipped to take the next step in their careers.
We’re immensely grateful for the work campaign staff put in this election cycle. If you are still on the job search, know that you are not alone and that Arena is here to help.
